IRENE RIMER "La Chata"

International Flamenco & Oriental Performer and Master Instructor
IRENE RIMER is the Artistic Director of Corazon Flamenco. She
trained with Madam Nina Novak, prima ballerina of the Ballet of Montecarlo and
with Flamenco instructors such as La Tati, Maria Magdalena, Paco Fernandez,
Ciro, El Guito, Jose Granados, Jose Serrano, and other legendary artists in Amor de Dios
studios in Madrid, Spain. As a professional Flamenco artist, she danced at
theaters and "tablaos” and experienced the "gypsy" living of the streets of
Spain.
Irene lived in Sevilla and travelled to Morocco to study Mideaster dance styles. She has performed with artists such as El Nano de Jerez, La Tati, La Morita, Juan Maya (Marote) Antonio Heredia, El Chino de Malaga, Pedrito Genil, Miguel Hernandez (Nagela), La China, Paco del Puerto, Pepe Torremolinos, Antonio and Emilia, and Jose Serrano to name a few. She also had the honor of being onstage with Camaron de la Isla. Other highlights were meeting Lola Flores, Paco de Lucia and El Niño Miguel de Huelva. Irene also performed at the famous "Los Gallos" and at Ferias in Seville, Jerez de la Frontera, and Cadiz with El Nano de Jerez and Paco del Puerto.
In 1985, Irene moved to Miami permanently and continued performing regularly and with "Flamencos" such as La Tati, Paco del Puerto, Cacharrito de Malaga, Pepe de Malaga, Estrella Morena, Leo Heredia, Pedrito Cortez, La Morita, Paco Fonta, Manolo Vargas, Antonio Serrano, Emilio Prados, and Juan de Alba to name a few.
In December of 2005, Irene relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, where she formed Corazon Flamenco. Since then, she has taught regular classes and workshops, produced numerous performances such as “Flamenco Blood Wedding," "The Art of the Gypsies lectures" and "Love, The Magician" and has also choreographed and performed with distinguished organizations such as the Birmingham Opera in La Traviata in 2009. Irene Rimer's performances have received outstanding reviews from the Birmingham News as well as her productions. She is also in the advisory board of the Alabama Dance Council.
As a Belly Dancer, Irene perforned in Europe over a decade ago but has most recently performed with her troupe, The Belly Dance Jewels, in numerous shows in South Florida with artists such as Tamallyn Dallal, Badiah of Egypt, Jillina, Jasmina, Samay, Virginia, Hanan, Jihan Jamal, and other beautiful dancers.
In addition to a rewarding dancing and teaching career, Irene is also an Accountant and a Realtor in Florida and Alabama. She Received a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do from Grad Master Rhoon Jhee in 1991, and is the mother of Adam and Cookie Albert.
